Research Fellows

Nichaluk Leartprapun, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Nichaluk (Nikki) Leartprapun is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Nadkarni Lab at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She received an B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University in 2014 and an M.S. in Bioengineering Innovation and Design from Johns Hopkins University in 2015. She completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Steven Adie at Cornell University in 2021, after which she joined the Nadkarni Lab in August 2021. Her research focuses on the development and application of optical technologies for micromechanical characterization of biomaterials.
Daniel Hoare is a Biomedical Engineer with a key research interests in the development of sensing technologies for translation into the cardiovascular clinical setting. After receiving a BSc (Hons) in cardiac physiology and MSc (Hons) in cardiovascular disease he received his PhD from the University of Glasgow (UoG) in 2022. At UoG his research focused on the development and in vitro testing of electrical impedance spectroscopy sensors for the early detection of vascular remodeling, through integration of sensing elements into implantable vascular devices. His doctoral research formed the basis for his postdoctoral position where he trialed devices in vivo. He joined the Nadkarni laboratory in 2023 focusing on the development of whole blood coagulation assays in microfluidic devices as part of the iCoagLab project.

Vineel Kondiboyina, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Vineel Kondiboyina is an interdisciplinary engineer with expertise in healthcare technologies and a strong focus on translating laboratory research into clinical applications. He earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Northeastern University, where his research centered on the mechanobiology of cartilage during limb development and regeneration, utilizing a combination of in-vitro, in-vivo, and computational models. In February 2025, Dr. Kondiboyina joined the Nadkarni Lab as a postdoctoral research fellow, where his current work involves applying Speckle Rheological Microscopy (SHEAR) to investigate the biomechanics of cancer microenvironments. His research aims to bridge fundamental mechanobiological principles with clinical insights, advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer.

Zeinab Hajjarian, Ph.D.
Affiliated Research Staff
Zeinab Hajjarian is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Her doctoral work focused on modeling light propagation through atmosphere to enable optical telecommunications and imaging. She transitioned to biomedical optics in 2010 by pursuing post-doctoral training at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital. There, she developed technologies for characterizing the mechanobiology of human disease, including cardiovascular disease, coagulation disorders, and carcinoma. Her current research involves development and translation of novel optical microscopes for mapping the biophysical and biomechanical properties of tissues.
